Wes,
I can't point you to any references outside standard surgical
texts. I can tell you that I developed a number of lipomas (if
you insist on Latin it would be lipomata) while in medical school.
This was distressing, to say the least. I spoke with several
faculty members I respect and did lots of reading (just didn't
save the references!). The conclusion I reached was that if the
tumors ever got big enough to interfere with mobility or function
or if they got ugly I'd have 'em whacked out. Otherwise, I plan
to leave well enough alone. My recollection is that lipomas are
very common and very unlikely to undergo malignant transformation.
However, I'm sure there's a surgeon on the net with more up-to-
date information.
