 Frequent cold sores/canker sores

I heard that you can abort a canker-sore attack at its onset by taking
12 prednisone pills at once. Since canker sores are the result of your immunity attacking your own flesh, prednisone is beneficial because it weakens the
immune system for a few hours.

Is predisone OTC or prescription?

You (George) must be kidding.  Prednisone is powerful stuff.  You would never take this
for canker sores.  I mean, sure they hurt, but the downer you would get from
the prednisone would probably make you quit your job or worse.

Prescription, definitely prescription.

I have heard of people using high dose {*filter*}steroids for canker sores.
Certainly people use topical and intralesional steroids for them
Prednisone is a dangerous medication long term, but for short term
use is fairly safe.  It's fairly common to prescribe 10 days of
Prednisone for bad poison ivy.

Psychological reactions to Prednisone are fairly variable.  Many
people like the way it makes them feel.
