Does anyone out there have information on amyloidosis?
This is why: in 1992 I was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder
dermatomyositis. This was brought under control. Then, in 1993 I started
showing signs of nerve damage. It started with numbness and tingling in
my hands. It progressed in fits and starts, until now I take medication
for the pain in my arms and have difficulty controlling my left hand. A recent
EMG showed damage to the sensory nerve axons in my arms. I did some research,
and found that causes for this could be diabetes (I've tested negative
pretty recently), nerve toxins (possible, but unlikely), leprosy (no way)
or amyloidosis. I also found that amyloidosis can occur after an attack of
rheumatoid arthritis, another autoimmune disorder.
I'm pretty concerned, but I don't want to take it to my doctor until I find
out if my concern is justified. Any information would be helpful.
Thanks,
