 Question on Hernia

 Hello;

I have a possible hernia near the groin area, its like a flab of
skin but there is no pain and I am very hesitant to get an operation
for it, I guess I had it for 2 months and it has done nothing
but stayed the general shape, is no larger than when I noticed it. I bike to
the University about 1.5 miles / day 7 days a week.
Can anyone give me some facts as to what it could do in the coming months
or whatever and how the good old medical perfession handles these things ?
I have no trust in hospitals and what would be an alternative, a pharmacist
suggested a " support " to hold it in place ...
 Comments are welcome..thank you..

Go see a doctor, so he can figure out whether you have a hernia or not.
If the answer is yes, get it fixed. There are no "alternative" treatments
for hernias. There is no place for a truss (to keep the hernial contents
inside the abdomen) unless your life expectancy is so short that it is not
worth it to go through the trouble of preventing the serious (sometimes
life threatening) complications that can accompany hernias.

A truss may be a workable alternative, but you really ought to see
a physician and be examined just to make sure that this is what you
have and that there would be no danger in using a truss.
