Hi netters:

        A good friend has worked as an engineer (she holds
        a Master's degree in Computer Engineering from
        UC San Diego) and now wants to apply to medical school.

        The problem for her is that she did not take many of
        the *medical* prerequisities in engineering school --
        most notably a series of Biology courses. She is now
        looking for a pre-med program that prepares people
        like her who come from a "non pre-med" undergraduate
        background.

        I believe that Columbia U. has such a program. Are there
        any other programs out there - possibly in California ?

        Please post or (preferably) email with your experiences      
        and/or advice and I'll summarize if there is sufficient
        interest.

The program of which you speak is through the School of General
Studies, our college for "{*filter*} education" (which always sounded
suspicious to me -- given the nature of "{*filter*}" movies, people wonder
what they teach at GS...).  GS is an administrative entity, not a
school in its own right; GS students take the same classes that
Columbia College students take, although they tend to flock to the
ones in the evening and summer.

They do pretty well getting their people into med school, but it is
fiercely competitive.
