Aneurysm Information Project
On Mon Dec 12, MDT received an inquiry about the prevention of aortic
aneurysms. Part of the reply is published below for the information of
the newsgroup:
Very few scientific papers have been published on
the subject of aneurysm prevention. The ones from my laboratory and the
ones from Dr. Ricci are mentioned in the Aneurysm Information Project
file named "Prevention Project." Dr. Ricci is organizing a prospective
randomized scientific trial to test the value of the drug propranolol.
The gene for Marfan's Syndrome has been discovered. It is named Fib15.
At least two research groups in the USA are presently addressing the
possibility that Fib15 might also be responsible for some cases of
abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). As soon as anything definitive is
published, I will take note of it in the AIP monthly research report
feature.
