Various countries publish statistics on this. Go to a library and look
for it. YOU could try UN demographic yearbook, it has data at least for
ages 0, 15, 50 and 65. Too bad the sample I have does not have data for
Portugal.

Take a large dose of opiates intravenously; life expectancy is then quite
accurately known to be less than 24 hours. ;-)

the basic process is projecting current death rates on a group of
individuals and extrapolating the groups death rates from current death
rates. There are a variety of methods, the maths is horrendous. If you
want a detailed comparison, you need to speak to an actuary or an
epidemiologist with appropriate experience (usually in oncology).
