I have purchased and used these breathing aids twice now and I must say that they have helped me breathe better while sleaping. I wouldnt wear them out of the house (too vain!), but I am sure they would help during my daily routine if I did. The only problem I had with them is after repeted use, (about 4 nites) the skin under the strips begins to get pretty irratated. I had to stop for a day or two, then resume using the strips. I found that I could streach out the use of the strips to two nites each, if I was careful when removing them in the morning. I hope this helps. --

My husband now sleeps through the night, thanks to the BreathRight strip. Happily, so do I (and his snoring WAS door-rattling!). You might try taking the strip off in the shower in the morning. According to my husband, this has eliminated the discomfort to which you refer. Such a wonderful product!

From what I have seen of these strip they are just tape across the nose. I see no way that they do anything to the internal structure of the nose or nasal passages. Hype and placebo effect is what I think is working here. Jim

I wonder how much of an effect they really have in absolute terms, but they seemed to help a lot when I had a bad headcold a few weeks ago. It's not just tape across the nose; it's a springy piece of plastic embedded in the tape which resists being bent around your nose. The adhesive on the strip is pretty impressive, even given an oily nose like mine, so the net effect is to open up the nostrils a bit. -- Steve Dyer

Are you willing to try them before you make such an ignorant remark? Externally lifting the nose cavity is an extremely effective way to increase airflow. Your an obvious case of "I shall deny all, until I try all" you've denied it, now go and try it. Also, it's more than simply tape, it also has plastic type strips in it for helping to contour the nose.

They do help to dilate the nostrils. Many people swear by them, and a lot of professional athletes are trying them out. The only complaint is that you have to keep buying more. As far as sleep apnea goes, Breathe Rights do nothing for it. There is even a warning about apnea in the accompanying literature. -- """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" "" David Anyadike Biochemistry Part-Time Polysomnographic Technician University of Manitoba, Canada (Sleep Disorders Tech)

Maybe I was sent some defective strips - they sure did not seem to have much "springyness" to them. Jim

Have you actually put one of these things on? You're right in saying that they do nothing to the internal structure of the nose. What they do is pull your nostrils open a little more to effectively open the airway. As for being just a piece of tape -- you're almost right. There is a rigid piece inside the tape that serves to pull the nostrils open. It's not the be all and end all for sinus problems, but they will help with hypertrophic turbinates. Also, since it involves no medication, there are no drug interaction precautions or pregnancy contraindications. Before I actually tried them, I didn't really believe they would work, but I got a real surprise that first night. If you have problem that these might benefit, why don't you ask your pharmacist for a sample? Then you can report back with your findings. By the way, I'm not a doctor. OK, dumb question: If you open up your nostrils to a size larger than normal, is there any chance of breathing in external garbage that normally would have been trapped by the nostril hairs and cavities? I thought that was the whole idea behind the design of our noses. If not I think I'll save a lot of money and breathe through my big mouth. Strip or no strip, I can really suck the 02 down the throat! If there is an angle I'm missing please enlighten me... thx ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |opinions expressed are my own.. | you argue for an option, | | | angle for your case. | | | like you wouldn't know a burning bush | | | if it blew up in your face. | | | | | | Hiatt | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kinda, yeah. Some people (like me) are not very good mouth breathers. If I need to switch to mouth breathing at night, I will wake with a start (not getting enough oxygen), and have to get back to sleep. Once back asleep, I'll go back to nose breathing until I don't get enough air. It doesn't make for a very restful night.
