 Loose skin

A friend of mine recently lost weight and has loose skin on legs, arms,
and abdomen.  He wants me to ask, short of surgery, are there dietary
supplements, ointments, or foods which will help tighten up his skin.
He is in his mid-forties and says he has had some exposure to the sun,
but has not made a ritual out of getting a tan.

No.  Exercise won't affect the skin either, though it might help a lot
with his muscle tone, and may fill out some of the loose skin in places.

Once he's kept the weight off for a year or so, and doesn't seem to be
in danger of regaining it quickly, he might want to consider a "tummy tuck",
a form of plastic surgery.

Some looseness will tighten up with time, but if he lost a lot of
weight, he probably will need surgery to get a good cosmetic result.
No local measures will help.  The collagen structure of the skin
is damaged.  You can tell if the patient has lots of stretch marks.
In these cases, it can not repair itself sufficiently.

Been there.  Done that.  Give it time.  A year or two will work wonders.
