1.01                   Iridology FAQ Introduction

This FAQ explains Iridology simply and clearly through various
theoretical and
philosophical standpoints. Many Questions and Answers are
exemplified in
showing various methods of study as well as practical clinical
approaches to
iris findings. A outline in the history of iridology is
dedicated to
the findings and discoveries of various physicians and
scientists. The
significance of these discoveries in research of iris analysis,
demonstrates
the continuous impact and development that their work had in
bringing the
science of iridology in perspective.

May it be emphasized that to master iridology demands careful
attention to
detail and perceptive observance in developing the ability to
find the initial
causes of disease. The theoretical stage describes iridology as
a science of
symbology with very little attention given to symptoms. The
objective is
prevention. Iridology can convince us that we are only as strong
as our weakest
tissue link and through understanding these inherent and
acquired weaknesses,
we are then able to properly build upon these tissues. It is
important to
understand that we must not name a disease after one symptom, as
it takes more
than one organ to produce a symptom in a individual. Iridology
cannot determine
disease names from the iris, but instead recognizes toxins and
their location,
as well as stages of inflammation, inherent weakness or
strength, constitution,
general health level and biochemical. It is well to realize that
iridology is
not to be used alone, but intended for additional use in
conjunction with other
systems of medical sciences and wholistic arts.

Theory in application illustrates how the iris is constructed in
layers, and
how these layers represent the four different stages of tissue
activity. These
stages, acute, sub-acute, chronic and degenerative, represent
the pathway to
disease and most significantly exemplify the pathway to health.
The theory and
importance of the healing crisis is shown to be an essential
element of
iridology. Approaches and procedures in iris reading and
clinical office
procedures are important through the many valuable techniques
that are best for
both iridologist and patient. The importance of clearly
understanding the
science of iridology is emphasized through cautious words of
knowledge in the
many phases of self-development. A great deal of practical study
is vital to the
self-development of iridology. The object is to get information,
and to obtain a
good history and a good background from which to work.

Anatomy of typical and abnormal iris conditions are well
illustrated with many
scientific, anatomical and theoretical foundations. This is
exemplified through
factors of inherent weakness, {*filter*} factors, racial
intermarriage, eye diseases,
injuries and abnormalities. The significance of studying reflex
areas and remote
symptoms is also demonstrated as an important tool in the search
for underlying
cause of disease. Studies of the density and landmark signs in
the iris are
represented within the construction of fibers and their relation
to over-all
constitution. This is defined through closeness of the fibers
and the fineness
of structure that determines density. It is well to realize that
every landmark
that is seen in the iris has its own history. We must consider
an all-around
picture and discover the cause behind the cause, and to not
immediately jump
into conclusions. Every landmark sign has its unique story and
we must read
and consider the many possible inherent, chemical, reflex,
nerve, spiritual
and mental philosophies in an individual.

The healing crisis is the ultimate goal for both practitioner
and patient to
work towards achieving better health and vitality. It is
imperative to
understand the many different physical, mental, and practical
aspects of a
healing crisis, so we can have a better perception into what to
expect when a
crisis is encountered. In working towards attaining health, an
individual must
go through the eliminative, transitional, and building phases.
The healing
crisis will most often occur during the transitional stage. This
is also the
time when the practitioner does least for the patient. This is
time to observe
and learn about Herings Law of Cure in accomplishing the
reversal of disease.
It is important to know the difference between a healing crisis
and a disease
crisis, which is indicative through the appearance of acute
fibers throughout
the whole iris, rather than in some localized areas. There
usually is some form
of notable elimination, possible discharges, or fevers, but it
is good to
realize that this will always vary with the patient who
endeavors to attain
the honor of a healing crisis.

The significance of understanding digestive and intestinal
disorders in
relation to disease is shown through many iridology case studies
and
research. When we have succeeded in correcting digestive and
intestinal
disorders, we begin the pathway to good health and vitality.

1.01                   The Birth of Iridology

The beginnings of Iridology have been cited from many areas of
the world dating
back to  the time of the early Chaldeans. The first documented
reference to iris analysis can be credited to the physician
Philippus Meyens, who
wrote a book called Chiromatica Medica, published in 1670, described the
reflexive features of the iris.

Soon after, other works on iridology had begun to surface, but
the true birth
of iridology is said to be in 1861 presented by Dr. Ignatz von
Peczely who has
earned the title of "Father of Iridology". Dr. Von Peczely
published his only
book on the subject of iridology in 1880 called, "Discoveries in
the Realms of
Nature and the Art of Healing". Another book published by a Dr.
Emil Schlegel
of Tubingen who wrote a book on Von Peczely's work called "The
Eye Diagnosis of
I.V. Peczely", was printed in 1886.

Around the same time (1871) a Swedish clergyman named Niles
Liljequist noticed
that the drug quinine & iodine that he was prescribed had
changed the color of
his eyes. At the age of 20 he published a paper titled "Quinine
and Iodine
Change the Color of the Iris". Liljequist book titled "Om
Oegendiagnosen" was
published in 1893 & included an atlas with 258 B/W drawings & 12
colored
double iris drawings. This book was later translated into
English in 1916
titled "Diagnosis of the Eye". Since then many books, papers,
volumes
of data, findings, and information have been published.

Listed here are some remarkable pioneers who have made a great
impact to the
study & development of iridology analysis:
