There's an alternative approach to dealing with learning disabilities (as
well as some other things) called edu-kinesthetics. It's the creation of
a chiropracter named something like Dennison. The basic premise is that
many learning disabilities are the result of poor coordination between
the two sides of the brain, and among other things the client (child or
{*filter*}) is asked to do what they call "cross-crawling," which involves
coordinating the right hand and the left foot and vice-versa. (It is
apparently not necessary to actually crawl.)
As usual with such alternative approaches, as far as I know there have
been no studies done using accepted scientific methodology and published
in refereed journals. However there are a lot of edu-kinesthetics
practitioners around and they claim a lot of success stories. I used to
get their newsletter, but I wasn't really all that interested, which is
why this information is so vague.
