Prednisone is used for a wide variety of things.  Brilliant tho we are (:-),
we sci.med'ers would need to know more in order to tell you much.

Care to elaborate your question?

Hard to say without knowing your dosage, length of time on drug, etc.  I have
taken it for ulcerative proctitis, although I usually apply it topically to my
colon (you can use your imagination as to how exactly this occurs).  But one
thing is important, and that is to taper off slowly, as not doing this can
give your system a jolt (not pleasant).  I learned this the hard way when I
took Prednisone by mouth.

I took it for a few weeks. It took me 3 months to taper off. And then five
years of mind deadening fatigue. And hope you have no accident during that
time, because an MD will have to guess whether to give you some then.

In Demark, they put you in the hospital before giving you this stuff.
You have been warned!

This is the problem with getting medical advice from the net. There is
no discussion of the reason for taking the medicine in the first place,
a single anecdotal horror story, and a "warning."

Julia, ask the physician who prescribed the prednisone if it's causing
the weird effects that you are feeling.  If he/she can't come to grips
with your problems, find another physician.  All physicians are not
equally competent.

I have been taking prednisone and it's analog prednisolone for 12
years.  It may have caused some weird effects but without it, I'd have
been severely disabled, perhaps even dead, from the disorder which it
controlled.  A few years ago, my physician began a better therapy for
the disorder, placing it completely under control.  We've been tapering
my prednisolone dosage off ever since.  I was on a big dose, nearly 100
mg every other day.  I'm still on 32.5 mg on alternate days, not because
I need it but because it's that difficult to stop safely.  But the
alternative to prednisone was too horrible to contemplate.

The problem with *that* advice is that few physicians *can* come to
grips with these chronic fatigue problems.  Go to a doctor with this
sort of problem, and unless s/he's the sort that make up medical
theory as s/he goes along (not a type I've had good results with!),
he'll look for some obvious problem that might be causing it, such as
thyroid dysfunction.  If nothing turns up, he'll label it "depression"
by default, and refer you to a psychiatrist -- which is actually the
best thing he can do, since shrinks actually have tools for dealing
with many of these cases.  That still leaves a *lot* of people who are
no better off than before.

They do?  I'm taking it for 4 days right now and it would be a big waste to
have me in the hospital.
