 Development of Nuclear Medicine

Hi everyone, I am doing some research in SPECT imaging, and would like to
know some background information/history/development in nuclear medicine.
So a pointer to some good reviews would be very much appreciated. Or if
anyone out there who has writen a paper in this area, I would love to have
a copy. (of course your name will be cited in my future work)

Some specific papers that I am interested in include: Single element detectors, Anger cameras, scintillation crystalls, collimators and maybe plannar imaging
Some of the authors my professor mentioned to me include Jaszczak and Floyd,
Gullberg and Zeng, which paper(s) are their most famous ones?

Thank you very much for your help. Happy 1996!

Recommend you get ahold of a back issue of the journal Health Physics
that was published this fall (July, August, Sept, Oct time frame).  The
entire issue was devoted to the history of radiation in the healing arts.
 Very technical, very complete.

From the 1960s check out Kuhl and Edwards (1963 in Radiology).  This is
probably the oldest paper on SPECT.  Circa 1977 there are papers by Keyes and
Jaszczak in the Journal of nuclear Mediciane that describe the rotating gamma
camera.  In the 80s check out papers by Budinger, Jaszczak, Gullberg, Ben Tsui,
Mike King in such places as the Journal of Nuclear Medicine, IEEE Nuclear
Transactions, and possibly SPIE proceedings.  Textbooks inclue the SPECT Primer
by English and Brown (published by Soc of Nucalr medicine) and Barbara Croft's
book on SPECT.  Also Sorenson and Phelps "Physics of Nuclear Medicine" has a
section on SPECT and PET.  This should give you some good references.  Sorry I
don't have specific references, but if you spend some time ina medical library,
I am sure you will find more than enough info.

Hi,  Xiaoyi Wu
You appear to be looking for some basic information on the Anger Camera
and SPECT.  I would suggest looking in any up to date text book of Nuclear
medicine
and using the bibliography contained theirin for further reading.  Some
good standard texts are "Principles and Practice of Nuclear Medicine" by
Early and Sodee, "Nuclear Medicine Technology and Techniques" by
Bernier,Christian, Langan and Wells.  Their are many other titles, the
publisher Mosby in St. Louis
puts out quite a few and a call to them will get you a free catalog.

                                                                   Good
Luck
