Current Surgical Treatment & Diagnosis
I'm a fellow medical student in the states. I have found several good
books on medicine and surgery. You are asking for a concise book (how
concise do you want?). The surgery book that we use for our class is:
Essentials of General Surgery by Lawrence (1992) Williams and Wilkins.
(pp. 432). Excellent gernal text on surgery. A companion book for
specialties is called Essentials of Surgical Specialties - same
publisher. The latter book is not as good as the former. For a more
indepth look at surgery I like the Current Series (Lange publishers) -
published almost every year. (pp. about 1000).
For internal medicine it is difficult to find a good book that is
concise. Medicine is so broad that you would sacrafice information by
making the text too short. I reccomend Harrison's or Cecils. Each has
a companion book that is significantly abridged and provides good brief
information.
Best of luck.
