REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
unmoderated group soc.senior.marketplace
Newsgroup lines:
soc.senior.marketplace Ads for senior related goods and services.
This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of a
world-wide unmoderated Usenet newsgroup soc.senior.marketplace.
This is not a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time.
Procedural details are below.
RATIONALE: soc.senior.marketplace
The other groups in the soc.senior hierarchy have a prohibition against
advertisments, as most subscribers do not want to have unwanted ads
swamping their favorite newsgroup. However, many seniors need to be
aware of various alternatives for, and gain information about,
activities necessary for fitness, planning and facilities for health
care, investing and planning for retirement, investigating potential
retirement locations, and other matters or announcements that might
be presented by commercial interests, and private or public agencies.
These seniors want the opportunity to see adverti{*filter*}ts and to have
these ads available to other seniors as well, so that any volunteer
advisers can evaluate and assist.
Soc.senior.marketplace will also provide a place for seniors to trade
with each other.
CHARTER: soc.senior.marketplace
Soc.senior.marketplace is intended to discourage the posting of
commercial ads in the discussion groups, but may also be used by
seniors who want to trade with each other, and by public or private
agencies to post announcements of their programs and to let seniors
know if they have a site on the World Wide Web.
Adverti{*filter*}ts posted here must be relevant to seniors rather than
to the general public. Informational postings regarding products and
services related to senior health, fitness, and health care planning
are welcome. Other topics of interest may include housing alternatives
for seniors, financial planning and insurance, guidance counseling,
and legal services specifically designed to meet the needs of seniors.
Announcements of quack remedies are not welcome here. Neither are
articles promoting get-rich-quick schemes, pyramids, or work-at-home
scams.
This group has been designed as unmoderated; however, in addition to
the limitations cited above, the following rules should be followed by
anyone desiring to post to soc.senior.marketplace.
1. Do not post substantially identical ads more often than once
every seven (7) days.
2. All posts substantially identical in content issuing from the same
poster must have identical Subject: lines.
3. Do not make false claims regarding products, services, or medical
procedures, or regarding the costs involved.
4. Do not post anonymously or use fictitious email addresses.
Disclaimer: Proponents have no way to verify the truth or accuracy of
any posting made to soc.senior.marketplace, and therefore disavow
any responsibility for the content of any adverti{*filter*}t therein. Sole
responsibility shall be with the poster, who by the act of posting,
agrees to bear the cost of any litigation brought about by the content
of poster's adverti{*filter*}t. Readers who respond to adverti{*filter*}ts
do so at their own risk. The author(s) of an ad and those who respond
(by email or otherwise) are solely responsible for the consequences
of any transactions which occur.
Posting to soc.senior.marketplace or responding to an ad constitutes
acceptance of the above terms.
END CHARTER.
