 spider bite

Hi all,

My wife had a bite on her chest last week that didn't want to clear up.
No pain but it was a raised red area. Turned to a boil like bump then
burst releasing pus and {*filter*}. Today its a round raised area with a black
center about .5" across (the whole thing)  The doc says it might be a
spider bite.  Any ideas?

thanks,

vic

This wild speculation, but the bite you describe sounds similar to a
Single Erythema Migrans rash, commonly seen in tick bites (associated
with Lyme disease).  The odds your wife got this are exceedingly slim, so
don't go out and worry about it yet, just something to think about.  I AM
NOT A PHYSICIAN SO ACCEPT THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT

Jonathan,

You do great work on the WWW page - stick to it buddy.

This woman's problem does not sound anything at all like the rash from
tick bite and Lyme Disease.  That is a growing concentric circular rash
typically like a bull's eye with red and normal skin tone rings.
This woman certainly could have had a spider bite with the black
remains, possibly just an abscess.  But NOT LYME.  There is enough
hysteria about Lyme let's not fuel the flames with erroneous info.

The things the books never tell you! I've had a couple bites like that,
and I'm almost sure it's a spider bite.

One of those cute "jumping spiders." It'll take forever to heal.
