Sinus problems and referred pain

 Sinus problems and referred pain

I have been diagnosed as having a polyp blocking most of my right
ethmoid sinus, which has been causing lots of headaches, etc. In fact,
I am scheduled to have the polyp removed in a month, so I have to endure
the pain until then. None of the OTC painkillers have been effective.

My problem is that I am having a lot of pain in the area of my right
mastoid (behind the ear). My sinus doctor tells me that he doesn't know if
it is related to the ethmoid polyp. I keep begging for some relief
but he keeps precribing muscle relaxants, which do nothing for the
pain.

Question: Isn't there some medicine I could take until the surgery that
allows me to get on with my life? Why isn't my doctor more concerned?
Should I be concerned?

Can I have an infection in the mastoid area without having an ear infection?

Thanks for any advice,
Todd Wallace

See the "Surgery for Chronic Sinusitus/Polyps" thread.  There are a
number of us that have been through what you're going though now.  I
had the surgery 12 days ago.

Have you had a complete CT-Scan of the sinus?  Maybe you have
additional polyps that your doctor has not seen if you don't have the
scan.

To be honest, how you've said your doctor has progressed with your
treatment sound nothing at all like what any of the rest of us have
done.  Are you sure this a first class ENT/Surgeon?
