Could someone please tell me what the difference between hypothyroidism
and
hypoparathyroidism is.  All responses are greatly appreciated!

Hypothyroidism is a state of low levels of thyroid hormone [Thyroxine, T4]
(mostly a metabolic controller).  The thyroid gland resides in the
anterior (front) neck.

Hypoparathyroidism is a state of low levels of parathyroid hormone
[Parathormone, PTH] (a controller of calcium balance).  The parathyroid
glands (4) are buried within the poles of the thyroid, but are
anatomically and functionally completely seperate from the thyroid.

Briefly, the thyroid gland is quite different from the parathyroid gland,
although both are located in the neck region.

Parathyroid hormone regulates calcium metabolism and thus in a
hypoparathyroid state, one would experience the effects of calcium
insufficiency.

Thyroid hormone, on the other hand, has many, many systemic endocrine
effects.  A deficiency state results in lethargy, bradycardia, decreased
tendon reflexes and myxoedema, among a myriad of other symptoms.

Remember I said "briefly"!
