: Could someone please tell me what the difference between hypothyroidism
: and
: hypoparathyroidism is. All responses are greatly appreciated!
: Kim
Briefly, the thyroid gland is quite different from the parathyroid gland,
although both are located in the neck region.
Parathyroid hormone regulates calcium metabolism and thus in a
hypoparathyroid state, one would experience the effects of calcium
insufficiency.
Thyroid hormone, on the other hand, has many, many systemic endocrine
effects. A deficiency state results in lethargy, bradycardia, decreased
tendon reflexes and myxoedema, among a myriad of other symptoms.
Remember I said "briefly"!
