My wife had hives during the first two months
of her pregnancy.  My son (3 months old), {*filter*}-fed,
now has the same symptoms.  She has been to a skin-specialist,
but he has merely prescribed various medicines (one
each visit as though by trial and error :-))

Anti-histamines worked on both of them, but looks like
becoming less effective.

Are there other solutions?  Thanks.

Food products can get through {*filter*} milk and cause allergies in the
young.  Since the son is allergic it would be best not to go to
bottle feedings, but rather eliminate foods from mother's diet.  Your
pediatrician should be able to give you a list of foods to avoid.

Good luck, Steve

I agree with Steve that your wife is allergic to certain
food and the antibody (?) is being passed to your child.
Be very wary about nuts, especially peanut (including
 peanut-oil, peanut-butter ..). It is very critical
to find out what cooking.net">food ingredients that your wife
 is allergic to.
My eldest son is severely allergic to peanut, one
medical theory is that he was sensitized
to peanut when my wife was {*filter*}feeding/conceiving
him and eating a lot of peanut.

The attribution to me was appreciated, but the editing was a little
mistaken.  Nonetheless, in these cases, the allergen is what is
thought to cross.  Antibodies cross {*filter*} milk as well.  If I had
to choose, I would keep the child on {*filter*} feeding and change mom's
diet.  A pediatrician should be able to help.  Dealing with allergies
is a common skill with pediatricians.

My advice is to go to an allergist or a pediatrician  with
training in allergy and immunology, especially in Singapore.
(When we visited Singapore, I had hard time trying to
convince everybody that my son had a severe case of
peanut allergy. It seems that the allergies there are not
as common as in North America). In my son's case, our
pediatrician refered him to an allergist as soon as he
saw this as a case of allergy.
