 Help needed w/ Ear infections!!!!!

My daughter has had ear infections for the past year and a half.  We have
taken her to two different doctors (one ped. & one ENT) who have prescribed
medicines, installed tubes in her ears, and now we are back to medicines again.
Nothing is really helping very much to get rid of the infections and the doctor
wants to put tubes in her ears again.  BTW, he also charges 690.00 more than
our insurance allows for the procedure.  I am willing to pay whatever it takes
to care for the child, but I doubt that the tubes will do any good now since
they did nothing the first time.  I am looking for an opinion as to what
direction should I move in now to get this taken care of.  I'm not a doctor but
it seems like there should be some anti-biotics either oral, topical or both
that should get rid of this.  Any suggestions?

 Help needed w/ Ear infections!!!!!

I had to respond to this post being an ear sufferer myself all my life
(Im now 26).  I have finally found out after seeing different ENT's
that there can be a couple reasons for this problem.  One of which is
if a person or child suffers from allergies/sinusitis often.  If the
allergies are treated and the sinuses then ear infections will not occur
as often.  I, as an {*filter*}, had tubes put in my ears once.  Then a different
doctor wanted to do it again so when I got a second opinion they decided
to treat me for allergies/sinuses instead.  They said that they prefer
not to keep putting tubes because each time the eardrum is perforated
it causes a little damage at a time, which can eventually lead to some
hearing loss.  My eardrums are scarred now.  The last sinus infection
I had I tried to treat myself with a few different methods that help
the ear drain and sinuses drain.  I know this may be difficult for a
child but for {*filter*}s, you get half water and vinegar and steam it.
As the steam comes up hold a towel over your head as much as you could
stand then kind of let the steam open the sinuses, you can take hot
showers as hot as you could stand it and it thins the mucus which all
comes out when you blow your nose.  Also, I have a diet of hot and spicy
foods which also thin the mucus.  It seems during the winter months
I am the worst, the summer I rarely get the ear problem.  It is definately
a nightmare sometimes and very frustrating.  People dont know how it
feels because its on the inside and you may look ok but inside your
suffering.

Could be that your daughter has a habit of wetting her ears (allowing
water into the earhole) whilst she bathes. This is a big NO-NO if that is
the case.

Try keeping the ears dry at all times and use small cotton buds (like
those by Johnson and Johnson for babies) to clear up any excess fluid in
the ears.

This may help... just my 2 cents worth :-)
