-> My tongue suddenly developed a white coating on the top of it about three we

-> but nothing worked. It has now changed appearance and has white patches rat
-> than a solid coating now. The coating and patches take on whatever color of
-> the

-> has bled a couple of times. During a dental appointment yesterday I had my
-> dentist look at it. He said it did not appear to be thrush, but rather a
-> condition caused by eating acidy foods or from having acid stomach. He
-> suggested rinsing my mouth with Mylanta to neutralize the acid, which I star
-> doing last night. The acid stomach theory could very well be it, since I do
-> suffer from irritable bowel syndrome and have problems with my stomach.
-> I guess I should also mention that I am diabetic and have been for about a
-> year, but have never had this problem before. As far as I know my {*filter*} sug
-> is under control, although I haven't had it checked recently.
-> Does anyone have any other ideas what this could be and how to get rid of it
-> prevent it from reoccuring?
If the condition is still present, a culture could be taken of
scrapings from the tongue. The white coating and the bleeding are
characteristic of yeast infection. Lab tests will likely confirm
this. Treatment is {*filter*}anti-fungals. The dosage for one of these
{*filter*}--Mycelex troches--is to dissolve one troche in the mouth every
two hours, five times per day for four{*filter*} days--a total of 70 troches.
Even without taking the culture, referring to dental pathology books
will help convince your dentist or physician of the diagnosis based
upon the conditions of white coating and the bleeding. Take this post
to your dentist.
Diabetics are more susceptible to yeast infections. Personal
knowledge about how to keep up your resistance will help you take care
of yourself when doctors and dentists do not have a clear path
for identifying and treating you. You should also discuss any choices
you are making about your nutrition or other self-care with a doctor
and a dentist in whom you confidence. A good book on the subject of
yeast is called THE YEAST CONNECTION.
