 Testosterone transdermal patch

I keep trying to use  the T patch, but every time I use it, it leaves a
large welt, which frequently scabs over.  I tried taking the patch off
after 12 hours, but there was no change in the reaction.

Any suggestions as to how I might keep this reaction from occurring?

You need to discuss this with your doctor, there is a strong likelihood
that you are allergic either to the medicinal combination on the pad or
the adhesive that keeps it in place.

Hi Fred,

There are two flavors of testo transdermal.  One is androderm, made by
SBK.  The other is Testoderm TTS, made by Alza.  If one causes you
problems, you might have better results with the other.  The cost is
almost the same.

I've used both.  I got a horrible reaction from the Androdem.  For a
month after I switched, I had severe irritation from the TTS but it has
since subsided.  I hear from others who switched my experience is not
uncommon.

Although I have heard of using various prescription cortisone-type
creams to reduce irritation, none were helpful for me, and I feared the
long term side effects.  Your doc may have more info for you.

If you are using TTT call Alza's 800 number and report your problems.
There may be nothing they can do to help, but they do appreciate the
feedback.  The number is on an insert in the box.  There is no feedback
mechanism for Androderm.

If you decide to switch, be aware the two products have entirely
different application instructions.  Some pharamacies give out bad info
on how to use them.  If the pharmacy's insert disagrees with the product
sheet from the manufacturer, trust the manufacturer.

Are you taking androgen therapy to treat klinefelter syndrome?  There
are two XXY/KS mailing lists:

You can put hydrocortisone cream on your skin and then apply the patch
over it (you can get 1% at the store), or the labeling suggests using
a more potent steriod, triaminolone, in the same way.  You have to get
a prescription from a doctor for that though.
