 Sudden onset hearing loss

In recent weeks I have encountered about 20 persons who have suddenly
gotten symptoms of apparent clogging of a Eustachian tube with consequent
reduction of hearing.   They report that onset was approximately six weeks
ago in most instances.
Most of the people report only one ear affected, although a few do
say the effect is bilateral.

Funny you should mention this- I am currently experiencing these exact
symptoms in my left ear. I had a slight cold, blew my nose too hard, and
immediately stuffed the eustachian tube! For the past two weeks I have been
going around with the sensation of a finger stuck in my ear, with hearing
loss. It seems the eustachion tube gets inflammed, and it takes a while to
drain. One of the ENTs I work with recommended holding my nose and
swallowing, creating a negative pressure to help drain the tube (as opposed
to doing a Valsalva, which I do on planes and when diving- it makes it
worse). It seems to be working and my hearing is nearly back to normal,
though my ear still feels a little stuffed.
