Ear clicking after a sore throat

I recently had a bout with a sore throat and stuffy head
and muscle aches all over.  Luckily, most of the symptoms
have receded.

I am left with this annoying click in my ears every time
I swallow.  Is there anything constructive that I can do
about it?  I suspect not.  (Oh, well.)

Sounds like your eustachian tubes are still semi-plugged.  These
tubes run from the back of your throat to the middle ear and serve
as openings to equalize ambient and middle ear air pressure.  What
you're experiencing is a mini version of the ear "popping" that
occurs as you change altitude in a plane or car.  Yawning, swallowing,
and to a lesser extent (for ME, anyway), chewing all tend to open
the tubes long enough to allow internal and external pressures to
equalize.  Since you were just sick, the "clicking" you hear will
most likely disappear with time.  I've seen decongestants...NOT
antihistamines...recommended for air travellers to help reduce the
swelling which blocks the tubes.  Sudafed is but one example of
such an OTC drug.  If the symptoms last for more than a few days,
or if you notice that your hearing is affected, or if you begin to
have pain in your ears, GO SEE A DOCTOR, because you may have gotten
        a middle ear infection.

On the other hand, I'm not a doctor, you don't know me from Adam,
and this IS Usenet, so treat the above paragraph accordingly.
