 where are lung transplants performed

I am attempting to get some information for my mother.  She would like to know
where the best place to go to have a lung transplant would be.  I am a grad in
biomedical engineering and have access to university resources.  Does anyone
know the answer or a place I can go to find it?

Thanks,

Steven Borowski

U.C.L.A. was in the news quite a bit during David Crosby's recent lung
transplant.  You might evaluate their transplant team.

Wasn't it a LIVER transplant?

Lung transplants are performed at the University of Pennsylvania.  I
would suggest contacting Harold Palevsky, MD (or his office) at The
Hospital of the Univ. of Penna.; 3400 Spruce St.; Phila.  PA 19104 {or
call 215/662-4000}.

Good Luck...

You're correct.  Regarding transplant programs, however, I'd recommend you
contact my organization -- UNOS.  Under federal contract we administer the
national system to match organ donors with recipients and to collect data on
all U.S. transplants.  All transplant centers and organ procurement
organizations are members of the network we maintain.

I won't (can't, in fact) offer value judgements on the "best" center.  But we
maintain lists of all programs and supporting data and information that can aid
in your choice.

Within a couple weeks we should have a WWW site established, and I'll post an
announcement here.  In the meanwhile, you can send me an e-mail or call our
Corporate Communications office at 804-330-8561.

BTW, there is also a very active listserv group for transplant recipients,
candidates, family members, etc.  The FAQ was recently published on this group.
If you'd like more information, let me know.

You mention a listserv - I'm new here - can you tell me where to find
it?  My father is waiting at Temple UH for a heart and my family and I
have lots of questions/worries...

Thanks!!
