Physician's Assistants/Nurse Practitioners/etc.

 Physician's Assistants/Nurse Practitioners/etc.

I am preparing a dissertation on the effect of physician's assistants,
nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and other non-MD medical professionals
(apart from RNs) on the doctor-patient relationship.  I am trapped, however,
at the University of Chicago - one of the least primary-care oriented
hospitals in the universe (snicker).  If there are any of the aforementioned
people willing to talk with me, or if there are MDs who have opinions about
the position of these individuals WRT their practice, could you please

telephone (see .sig).  I'll only use as much of your time as you are willing
to offer (I promise!).  Thanks, in advance, for your help.

 Physician's Assistants/Nurse Practitioners/etc.
They are being used extensively by highly paid types of physicians
to do the portion of their work which is not very highly
remunerative.  For example, wound care and dressing checks by
surgeons.  Our department would like to start using LNPs for
doing routine follow up care of Parkinson's Disease, MS, etc. so
the physicians can spend more time working off the backlog of new
referrals which also are more remunerative under the current
payment system.  There are many jobs that these people can do just
as well as physicians and they are more cost-effective.
