Advice needed on equipment to buy-med school

I am a first year med student and I was wondering if anyone out there with
some clinical experience could look at a list of equipement that they
have suggested we get and tell me what they think of each one...

1. Otoscope - pocket set 2.5 v - soft or hard case?

2.  Kleenspec {*filter*} disposable (100) [I have no idea what this is]

3.  Insufflator [again, no idea]

4.  pen light - what kind?

5.  Stethescope - Littman Cardio II or HP?

6.  Sphygmanometer - an "economy model"?

7.  Taylor Hammer

8. Tuning fork (128 Hz and 512 Hz)

There will be a rep from Welch Allyn here...
I would love suggestions on any specific items that I have listed or
experiences that any of you have had with them or if you think they are
necessary during the clinical years of med school

Also, they told us to NOT get any of the following now...

1.  Buck hammer
2.  Scissors
3.  tourniquet
4.  EKG caliper
5.  nasal speculum
6.  EENT guide
7. medical bag (they told us we coud get mugged if we carry oneof these)

I need to deicde what to get before Nov 7th -

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Thanks

Soft case

If they are very cheap, usually you can pick them up in clinics and carry
a few around. I got 200 for free with my kit 100 each of large 4mm and small
2.5mm.

Since they are cheap, go ahead and get it. I haven't used mine but a couple
of times, but they are supposed to be good for checking fluid behind a kid's
TM.

Don't bother, use the light on the otoscope or ophthalmoscope. Also at Med
meeting the drug reps, hospital recruiters, etc. give them out by the
Truckload.

Get the cheaper one for now, if you go into Int. Med. then maybe spring for
a better one when you are rich and famous. Also if you go into certain
fields , Path, Rad. etc. you'll be trying to sell it in a few years anyway.

Worthless, except for practicing on family and friends, because most rooms
both Hosp and office examining rooms have them now anyway.

Sometimes you can get regular reflex hammers and even Neurology hammers from
the drug reps. They are cheap so get one, but I never really carry mine around.
I use the stethoscope bell without any problem if there isn't a hammer
around the room.

OK, again they are cheap, and its fun to scare the dog with. I haven't had
much use for them yet, but probably will sometime.

I have one mainly for storage, but yeah nobody really carries them around.
