Can anyone tell me anything about the (perhaps media-generated) controversy
surrounding the safety of the drug Prozac?  I saw a recent Chicago news
broadcast that indicated some patients have extreme reactions to this drug,
becoming suicidal or homicidal -- e.g. the printer in Louisville (?) who
shot seven coworkers before killing himself had major amounts of Prozac in
his system.  Lilly, the makers, stand by the drug's safety, but wouldn't
you if it makes you a billion a year?

My gut feeling is that this is blown out of proportion -- but certainly
patients should be closely monitored for side-effects such as the above.
It seems to be an excellent replacement for the MAO inhibitors and tricyc's.
Fewer side effects, faster patient response, greater affected population.

Any comments?
