As someone who's had hand and foot warts, and tried different treatments, let
me toss in my 2 cents worth.
1. I think the liquid nitrogen is the slickest, best, fastest, with
maybe one exception (later). Usually, unless you've had the warts a long
time and they have gotten larger and deep, one zap of the liq nitrogen will
do it. Ok, so maybe a little pain, but no bid deal.
2. When I was about 15, I had longstanding warts on my fingers, esp the
index finger where the pencil/pen would hit when I wrote. My mother took
me to our family doctor; he was a swell fellow, but a _surgeon_. He used an
electric cautery and scapel. Big mistake I (and sister) still have scars.
Lesson. Better go to a dermatologist for skin related problems.
3. These hand/finger warts were still with me when I was a para-medical
related student at a hospital. A dermatologist used salicylic acid plasters.
Very prolonged and painful, but the warts were entrenched. They finally
relented.
4. Warts (you all know this?) are a virus. Some people are more apt to get
them than other people. If you go picking at them, you can spread the virus
to other parts of your body -- say to other parts of your hand or feet.
They usually hang out in calloused areas (heel, finger pressure points).
Some doctor will read this and let us know WHY this is? (?protection?)
5. If you get a wart, the sooner you treat it the better. That is, get
it while it is small, stay on top of it. If you are succeptible to the
wart virus, be sure to wash your hands if you are poking around someone
else's warts (you know, like looking at one of your kid's warts).
6. I know some folks will argue with me hear (maybe). But, there
appears to be some ill-understood, partial relationship between the mind and
warts (some folks think that the mind, stress, etc can affect other skin
ailments; like excema). Years ago my neice had a wart on her hand. I told
her I could make it "go away". I did a "ritual" sort of thing. Maybe it
was the bean thing (rub bean on wart, toss bean away), the penny trick,
I don't recall. Point is, I (think I) sounded authoritative and definite and
calm. She was young. Her wart was gone within two weeks. (I did this to my
self when I was 8 year old and it "worked"). Later, I did it to an
older friend. Some ritual sort of thing: "WART BE GONE"! His wart went
away. Maybe would have gone regardless. Warts can be like that -- they
can just up and go away. As if your immune system finally gets the hang
of beating it. Who knows.
I suspect though that the wart virus is particularly easily beat. So maybe
just a little change in something that maybe enhances your immune system --
like more rest, hope, etc.
I also think the "home remedy voodoo majic" sort of thing will work, but is
more apt to (like hypnosis maybe) on people who can momentarily get engrossed
in something; then let it completely slip from their conscience. For the
"majic" to work, you _don't_ want the subject to keep checking on the status
of the wart. You don't want a scientist/analytical type that knows there is
no logical reason for this to cause a wart to disappear. It is sort of in
the realm of "tooth fairy", intuition, hope, faith, charisma.... intangible.
Sorry I have gone on. But I've played with this a bit. However, I am a
skeptic about most things ("show me"). If I get a wart again, I'll go
to a nice doc and have it zapped with liquid nitrogen. I almost treated
myself with liquid nitrogen, but thought better of it. I lacked the
courage and wondered if I might not end up going too long or too deep
-- leaving a scar on my foot that would be worse than the wart (plantar).
