Need HELP with HIVES, SOS!!
Sophia,
Hives sure can be tough and it sounds like you have a bad case.
You mentioned antihistamines 350mg per day. You did not say but I
would guess that this is benadryl (diphenhydramine). This sure is a
large dose. If you are not adequately controlled here are two thoughts
in addition to continuing on the zantac
1. you could try atarax (hydroxyzine) this sometimes is better for itch
and hives than diphenhydramine
2. hismanol (astemizaole) is a relatively newer once a day
antihistamine that is supposed to be one of the very best for treating
chronic hives. This is probably what you should be on.
Finally, have you been worked up for other causes of your hives. There
is a very long list and if they have been going on for months I would
want to be sure that some underlying disease and not just simple
allergy be considered. Also your symptoms are a bit unusual with the
pain not just itching.
You certainly need close follow up with you doc.
Good luck.
