 Chloral Hydrate

i am curious what dose of chl{*filter*}hydrate should effectively render
somebody unconcious.  i am male, 20 yrs old, 132 lbs...my doctor
origianally prescribed 500mg, then 1000mg (1g), then 1500mg, and i the
stuff does not knock me out, he then suggested i take it staggered
every thirty minutes, and still it has no effect.  i tried 2g, but that
was useless as well, the stuff does not even make me dizzy,
lightheaded, or out of sorts...i can feel it in my systom but it does
not make me sleep-why?  isn't 2g an excessive amt?  is it safe?  any
suggestions?  advice?  anybody know why my body is so resistant to the
med?  thanks for the info.  lca

Well, first of all, a sleeping pill is not supposed to act like an anesthetic;
it's not supposed to render you unconscious!  It's supposed to help you
fall sleep.  But if you're not in bed with nothing else to do, a sedative
might not put you to sleep.

The recommended hypnotic dose of chl{*filter*}hydrate is 1 gram.  However,
there have been studies which have indicated that this is frequently
inadequate.  Some people might require as much as 2 grams, which is
also the maximum recommended daily dose in {*filter*}s.  But I suspect
that most doctors at that point would use a different sedative (perhaps
one of the benzodiazepines) rather than chl{*filter*}at such a high dose.
