 Cushing's Syndrome

my internist tells me that he is 99% sure that I have some sort of
disorder called Cushing's Syndrome.  What is it?  What are the effects of not
having it treated?

The symptoms of Cushing!s Syndrome are a result of overproduction of the
adrenal steroid hormone cortisol. Prolonged high levels of cortisol are
deleterious (resulting in muscle wasting, poor wound healing, and in some
cases hyperglycemia and diabetes, and increased susceptibility to
infection).

Cushing!s Syndrome has a number of possible causes: e.g. a hypothalamic
disorder, a pituitary tumor, an adrenal tumor, or an ectopic tumor (i.e.
a tumor of a tissue that does not normally produce any relevant
hormones). The effects of not having the disorder treated would depend on
the severity of the syndrome and on the underlying cause.

I won!t make any recommendations for treatment (other than to see one or
more M.D.s).
