 Data of skull

Hi, We are trying to develop a image reconstruction simulation for the skull.  The problem we are having is that we cannot obtain 3D data for the skull.  We can just video a rotating skull, but that will only give us 2 dimensions.

Anyone out there got any suggestions?

Please help

Thanx

Yup, you can get a skull contained in the {*filter*}ware_demo from the
following location:

In order to get the {*filter*}ware_demo via ftp do the following:

        1) ftp taurus.cs.nps.navy.mil
        2) login as anonymous, guest as the password
        3) cd pub/dabro
        4) binary
        5) get {*filter*}ware_demo.tar.Z

Once you get the demo onto your workstation:

        1) uncompress {*filter*}ware_demo.tar.Z
        2) tar xvof {*filter*}ware_demo.tar

The skull data is called 'phred' and resides in the data directory.

You could paint the skull mat white, then do some complicated
shading analysis on it.

GT> Hi, We are trying to develop a image reconstruction simulation for the skull

You could do high resolution CT (computed tomographic) scanning of
the skull.  Many CT scanners have an algorithm to do 3-D
reconstructions in any plane you want.  If you did reconstructions
every 2 degrees or so in all planes, you could use the resultant
images to create user-controlled animation.

Well I've had a look at the data for the {*filter*}ware demo, and the
data/phred file is there (allegedly the 3d-data fro a skull), but
        what is the format ??

Kingsley,

the format is a {*filter*}ware format, but if you look in the
{*filter*}ware_demo/convert directory you will find executables/source code
to convert a {*filter*}ware data file to various other formats, eg. ASCII,
wavefront, alias, etc., also, there is a program in the same directory
called 'cyges' which will convert a {*filter*}ware data file to IGES. The
color files are in SGI imagelib format, so that any of the tools in
the ~4Dgifts/imgtools directory on an IRIS will operate on the color
file.
