Another help question to anyone who may have some information. My close
friends mother has been hospitalized from a stroke. Some of the background
follows;
Approx. 30 years ago, she received shock treatments to supposedly help with
behavi{*filter*}problems. She has also been on Thorazine since then. Approx. 8
years ago she "lost it" and was re-institutionalized. An M.D. diagmosed her
problem as not one of a mental disorder but that she had ???disease. The
major arteries in her neck were almost totally clogged. They did surgery,
scraped out the veins, and inserted a by-pass tube in one side. She was told
this would not last forever. About 3 months ago she again seemed to be going
off the deep end. Erratic behavior, mood swings, {*filter*} temper etc... She
was examined by a psychiatrist (against her will) for three days. She was
placed on 2000 mg. of Thorazine twice a day and another anti-depressent (name
I forgot). 2 weeks ago she layed down on saturday afternoon. By sunday
evening she hadn't moved. My friend's father called and told of the situation
thinking it was an antidepressent enduced sleep. (They could not reach the
doctor who prescribed the medication as he was out of town that weekend) By
monday afternoon, she was breathing erratically, and they phoned an ambulace.
She has been comatose, and on a respirator etc... since then. The doctor can
find no reason for the coma, but said she has had a stroke. They also say
they do not know why she is "brain dead". My questions are these; Isn't that
enough Thorazine to put an elephant out? Wouldn't you think the stroke is the
reason for the coma like condition? Shouldn't an arterial {*filter*} gas test tell
you (or atleast help point to) another problem with the {*filter*} flow via those
arteries? Any other suggestions?
