He's being a jerk because she probably caught them from him (unless
she's had another {*filter*} partner in the last year). He probably has
very small ones that would be difficult to see and he's probably had
the virus for quite some time.  He may even have known about it -- not
too likely if he doesn't have any visible warts.  She should discuss this
with her doctor.  They are caused by a virus which doesn't go away, but
the warts can be treated.  It does increase her risk of cervical cancer,
but certainly isn't a guarantee that she'll get it.

Easily cleared up? No big deal? Easily controlled? Tell that to women who have
been treated repeatedly with a drug that's basically an acid that's supposed to
burn the warts off. Tell that to women who are taken to surgery to have the
warts lasered.... Explain please what's "EASY" about having to do a cystoscopy
to treat {*filter*} warts in the urethra, and yet another procedure to try and
treat warts that have migrated up the rectum and colon. {*filter*} warts covering
the {*filter*} and extending up into the {*filter*} are not especially easy either....
and as you admit... they do recur.

Another good reason to know who {*filter*} partners are, and where they've been
before, and if common sense fails, at least insist on consistent use of
{*filter*}s.

 Genital warts
To those who know:

Please help my cousin and I settle a disagreement. She was recently diagnosed
with a {*filter*} warts, and is now convinced that she will contract cervical
cancer. I told her that the risk was minimal, and that they're the most common
kind of VD and fairly easy to clear up. However, her boyfriend, who
unfathomably is being quite the jerk, says that {*filter*} warts are caused by the
herpes virus and that once you have them, you always have them.

I tried to tell her that he was deluded, but she is quite distraught and
doesn't seem to be listening. If I remember my health class correctly, warts
are not a symptom of herpes. Am I right?

{*filter*} warts are very easy to clear up but more than likely reoccur. It's no
big deal, there are a lot of people out there that have warts.  They go to
the doctor when they get one and get it frozen off.  It can be easily
controlled and are!

{*filter*} warts are caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).  They can be
treated, and will sometimes go away, but it's not a sure thing.  It may
make your friend feel better to have them treated, but it probably won't
get rid of them for good.

Some strains of HPV are more likely to cause cervical cancer than others.
Luckily, cervical cancer has a high cure rate if caught early (the 1992
Merck Manual says that death from cervical cancer could be eliminated if
all women had yearly Pap smears).

Your friend should have regular pelvic exams and Pap smears.  She could
have the virus typed, but if it turns out that she has one of the strains
which is more correlated with cancer, she'd really worry - and she
couldn't do any more about than she can now - so she should probably
stick with exams for now.

My daughter had this problem.  Not a symptom of herpes.  Don't think
she was cautioned about any cancer risk, either.

This is misinformation.  at least 3 strains of {*filter*} warts lead to
cervical cancer.  That is why it is very important for woman who have had
{*filter*} warts to have annual pap smears.  {*filter*} warts should not be taken
lightly.

I know from personal experience that you can get them inspite of a {*filter*}.
So you really do need to know  your partner

[rest deleted]

All this may have something to do with secondary infection.
Like many diseases, more than one can attack at the same time.
Perhaps the confusion may be the chance that in one case one had a
single problem and another case the same problem AND another condition
which was caught at the same time.
That may explain the differences in how certain Doctors are dealing with
it. (the treatment that is!)
