So are scrib- and graph- from the same PIE root?  Who knows?

Not according to Calvert Watkins' supplement in AHD3, which makes the
roots in question *skribh- and *grbh-.

There can be no common PIE root for 'write' -- because writing didn't
exist in PIE times. The various families used variously appropriate
words from nearby semantic fields.
